Artist Research

I chose Michael Wille for this artist research. His stuff is pretty cool and reminds me of the projects that I did in FA 102. His abstract collages are contrasting and very interesting but at the same time I can't really look at them for too long because I start getting bored with them. After being on his website for about 5 minutes I had already felt as though I had been there for ages and I really just wanted to back out of the page and look at something else. I don't know that i would ever go out of my way to see his work and I think that has a lot to say about how he connects with his viewers. I don't really know how many people would be that interested in his artwork but at the same time I have no idea and I my be wrong. Either way, I don't really have a whole lot to say about this guy except his work really isn't too great and unless you are a fan already.

Midterm Material Transformation

This was a little difficult for me to due because I seemed to be more interested in the carving aspect of the project instead of the transformation side. To a certain point I thought that perhaps I did an okay job because in the end the MDF that I used as the base or sand seemed to look like such. Although I maybe didn't do a great job with the transformation part I honestly think that I did a good job with the carving and I am proud of that. I liked creating something from nothing and being able to see it come out from the wood that is being carved. Making the squid was awesome and I used hand carving along with some sanding tools to get an overall smooth look to it and I used sanding machines from the shop in order to make the sand smooth. I think strongly that if I had painted my squid and sand and what not with the colors that the are in real life then I would have passed the transformation aspect with flying colors. A lot of people said that their project would not have looked transformed without changing the outside look somehow. All in all, I had fun and I like the squid that I created and the idea behind it.

Artist Research

For this artist research I chose to do a ceramics artist by the name of Judy Moonelis. She was simply the first name on the list that I saw and I ended up  being very happy with choosing her. As soon as I got to her web page I found my eyes widening at what I saw. Her work is very very cool and has a lot of mystery to it and some abstractness that just keeps you so interested and in the moment. I could probably look at her stuff all day long and I actually really wish that the university would get her to come her and have a gallery display because I would love to get the chance to see her pieces in person and maybe get a chance to ask her some questions. I chose to show a picture of what I thought to be one of her most interesting works and I really like this one because I have a thing with trees and things in nature. This artwork had me starring for quite some time and at one point I found myself shaking my head in order to snap myself out of the hypnosis I was in. Imi Hwonboi??---Imi Hwangbo (Fiber and Craft Artist Research)

Ok, so this artist research was somewhat confusing to me. When I was looking at the list of artist to chose from I stumbled across Imi Hwonboi an was immediately intrigued by the name. It was very interesting to me and I just wanted to know what kind of art came from a person with such an amazing name. So after typing and searching her name, instead of coming up with with Imi Hwonboi it just kept coming up with Imi Hwangbo. I realized that it may have been a typo error or something like that but I was just really confused and it made me more interested in this changing person. The person I found was pretty cool though. Imi Hwangbo's work has a lot of patterns and bright blues and reds mostly. As you can see from the photo below, patterns are a giant part of her work and what she does. I think everyone who has the chance should get the chance to stop by her website sand see for themselves exactly what she does and how cool her work is. Her abstract mind has the ability to create things that cause the mind to wander but at the same time focus on the meaning deep in the artwork.

Self Portrait Sculpture

The self portraits were awesome! I thought that this project really helped not only me but everyone with their ability to create accurate detailed sculptures using the model clay. Not everybody really had a handle I felt on using the model clay well until we did this project. I liked a lot of peoples portraits and some of them turned out great with a lot of detail and it basically looked exactly like the person who had created it. Some on the other hand did not turn out so well but thats ok because everyone has different skill sets. Personally, I thought that mine really ended up looking like me although I will say that mine is not close to being amazing. I very much enjoyed this though and am very happy with the outcome that I had with the oil clay. I really think that the hat plays a big part in making the portrait look like me even more which is kind of weird but makes sense because I always wear a hat. Anyways, here is me and enjoy the work of me. Ha. 

Orozco Project

This project was cool although I found Gabriell Orozco to be a strange dude. From the video that I watched, his job seemed very odd but at the same time very very easy. He simply walks around and takes pictures of random things some of which he arranges in a certain way. If I saw him in the street doing the things that he does I would probably walk the other direction. But, this project had me thinking and in the end I just decide to take what I believed to be weird photos. In the end, the three pictures that I have displayed below are what I ended up with. One is a photo of some beer cans in which I decided to crush all but one to make it seem as though one individual was standing strong amongst the same walking cans. Another is a take on the PB&J that I thought was kind of funny and unfortunately I wasted a piece of bread. The last is a photo of a crumpled 20 dollar bill as if it were simply thrown away. I though this was cool because many people would think to find a dollar bill as though it just fell out of a pocket not crumpled on purpose. All in all this was cool but strange at the same time. Speed/Time Project

Well, this project was actually very cool due to the fact that it really made you think seeing as how there were no real directions. With this being the case, it allowed for a great deal of creativity and I believe that everyone had to honestly put a piece of themselves into this project more than most. I decided to make some signs that had to do with slowing down in life and allowing yourself time to calm down and stay positive. These are simply made out of thicker paper but I would love to make some than are made of metal like road signs and put them up on sidewalks as if they were mini stop signs. I think that signs like these could be a huge self confidence booster around campus for people who are having a rough day. I really enjoyed this project even though it seemed difficult and hopefully one day I can take this idea and maximize its potential.
